1. From our website www.asdsingapore.com, browse the Dogs For Adoption section and select a few of the dogs you may be interested in.
2. An Adoption Application Form will then be emailed to you – the potential adoptive family (PA) – to complete.
3. Upon receiving the completed Adoption Application Form which will give us an idea of your lifestyle and prior experience with dogs, the ASD Rehoming Team will then assess if we have any dogs suitable for you. If we do not, we will not shortlist you.
4. If you are shortlisted, an Adoption Counsellor will contact you within 2 weeks for a discussion and advise if the dog(s) you have chosen is/are suitable for your family. If not, we will suggest other dogs to you.
5. A viewing and bonding session will be arranged for you and your family to meet the dog(s) during which we will assess your interaction with the dog(s).
6. If the viewing goes well and your family is keen to adopt one of the dogs that you have viewed, we will require photos and videos of your house prior to the dog going over. This is to assess the security and suitability of your residence. We will advise you if you need to make certain changes and/or install safety measures (eg. window grills) to prevent the dog from escaping if necessary. We have rejected PAs at this stage if they are not willing to comply.
7. We will arrange a date for the dog to be brought over to you. Prior to this, we will email you a list of items which you would need to prepare before the dog’s arrival. Advice on the type of food, collars, harnesses, leashes, tick and heartworm preventive measures, training etc will also be given in the email.
8. There will be a 2 week homestay period if the dog is an adult. You will have to sign a Homestay Agreement accepting full responsibility for the dog while it is under your care. For puppies, there is no homestay period and the PA will need to finalise the adoption immediately (this is not applicable for Project ADORE adoptions as we do not rehome puppies to HDB residents).
9. During the 2 week homestay period, your Adoption Counsellor will be in constant contact with you to further guide and advise you and to answer any questions that you may have. If you decide, at anytime, not to adopt the dog during this period, the dog will be removed from your care.
10. At the end of the 2 weeks, your Adoption Counsellor will check with you if you are keen to proceed with the adoption. If so, we will email you the Adoption Agreement to sign and collect the adoption fee.
11. You will be required to apply for a Dog Licence at the point of adoption.
Post Adoption Support
ASD believes in keeping in contact with our adopters even past the adoption stage. Adopters are welcome to contact us about any problems they face or just simply update us about their new family member. ASD is happy to provide advice, tips and resources to help adoptors cope with the issues if there are any.
Home Visits
ASD will conduct home visits if necessary. The home visits will also give our experienced Adoption Counsellor an idea of the environment which may be the cause of some problems.
