In he not so distant past, Brownie was one of the many dogs that inhabited the plots of barren land earmarked for development. Food was scarce and water came from the drains. In time, workers came in to set up make shift quarters as development got underway.
All Brownie had was a bed of sand and stone, and scraps leftover by the workers. And there was always the constant danger of the pound people on their rounds. It was the precautious balance between life and death that we took him in and searched for the right people to adopt him.
The family that contacted us to adopt Brownie was like a godsend. They lived in a house with a huge garden and though they could easily have afforded any pedigree they wish, they had no reservations about adopting Brownie despite his humble origins.
Together with his new life and his new name, Colby has found that life isn’t just about survival. Life is about love and appreciating the little things in life, like how Colby expresses his happiness at seeing them when they get aback from work every day.
Where once he scrounged for food, he now has ample food and good nutrition, which has seen him growing and glowing with health and vitality. His youthful exuberance has certainly rubbed off on his new family members, as they recount happily his antics and affection.
Chasing the basketball is his favourite sport, else his squeaky bone is his next best friend besides his family members. They are also very proud of his quick learning abilities. He’s learnt to alert the family when it is meal time and when it is time for his milk!
Once again, our gratitude goes to Colby’s new family for their unconditional acceptance and love for Colby and their enlightened perspective of canines: The regardless of breed, gender or appearance, the core of every dog’s being is to be Man’s best friend, and Colby is a living testimony to that!
